Verizon XV6900 Reviews

CNET reviews the Verizon XV6900 and writes, “Verizon Wireless made a number of smartphone announcements at CTIA 2008, and we’re slowly seeing the roll out of the new devices, the first being the Verizon Wireless XV6900. Available now for $249.99 (with a two-year contract and after rebates), the XV6900 is basically the HTC Touch with Verizon’s branding. It does get a fresh coat of paint and the overall look is quite pleasing to the eye. However, beauty can only get you so far. While the core functions and features–Windows Mobile 6, Bluetooth, EV-DO–remain intact and general performance was good, the Sprint HTC Touch is a better value as it offers preloaded instant-messaging clients and support for the carrier’s multimedia services, whereas the XV6900 does not. Therefore, if you’re not locked into a contract, we’d recommend going with Sprint’s version.” Link.

InfoSync reviews the Verizon XV6900 and writes, “Unlike other HTC designs, the Touch design used to make the Verizon Wireless XV6900 is actually growing on us, especially as we find hardware that does a better job responding to the gestures and input that drives the overlay. The XV6900 looks great, outside and in, and Windows Mobile users who know what they are getting into will have a great time with the calling and scheduling features, as long as there isn’t too much typing involved… Instead of coming up short in the multimedia department compared to Sprint’s Touch, Verizon Wireless should have run with that ball and created a vastly improved experience, perhaps including their trump card in V Cast Mobile TV. Instead, media playback and Web browsing were both below average, and tethered modem support was buggy enough to scare us away.” Link.

PC Mag reviews the Verizon XV6900 and writes, “Here’s one of the big problems with the U.S. cell-phone market: A phone—let’s call it the HTC Touch —starts out on GSM networks in June 2007. It’s got a fresh, radical design. By October 2007, it’s on Sprint in a new, faster format with all sorts of new goodies. The design isn’t as fresh, but the features are compelling. But then it takes until late April of the following year for it to get to Verizon—and guess what? It’s starting to look a bit old…If you look at our ratings, the first HTC Touch earned three stars because, though innovative, it was sluggish. The Sprint version rose to four stars on the strength of its greater speed and media player options. But now that six months have passed and Verizon has added nothing new to the mix, the bloom is off the rose. Although the Verizon XV6900 has no deal-killing faults, we’d nevertheless suggest a Motorola Q9m or Samsung’s SCH-i760 for Verizon instead.” Link.
