T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 Reviews
PC Mag reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “At $149 (before customization), the Sidekick 2008 costs at least $50 less than the Sidekick Slide and LX models but $50 more than the BlackBerry Pearl. If you’re set on a Sidekick, this is the one to get. But the Pearl is still a smaller, better, all-around e-mail phone. Your decision here will likely be based on whether the idea of personalized skins makes up for the Sidekick’s tiny mailboxes.” Link.
IntoMobile reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “Unfortunately, as a down-range device, the Sidekick 2008 sports cheap-feeling plastic exterior pieces that pick up smudges and scuffs like nothing else. But, seeing as how additional Sidekick shells can be had for $15 from T-Mo, Sidekick 2008 users can replace scuffed-up shells at a whim…Overall, the Sidekick 2008 is exactly what we’d expect in a low-end Sidekick. In fact, the Sidekick 2008 surprises us with a healthy spec-sheet and decent styling - something you don’t see everyday in the entry-level market.” Link.
Gizmodo reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “It’s more features for less money. Not only is the Sidekick 2008 $50 cheaper than the $199 you’d currently pay for the Sidekick LX, it comes with more stuff. The best hardware improvement has to be the reduced size, and at 4.7 x 2.3 x 0.7 inches, it’s as long as the iPhone, slightly narrower, but about twice as thick. The second most important feature on an SK is the keyboard, and remains pretty much the same as before: chicklety. If you liked previous iterations, you’ll like this one.” Link.
Slashgear reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “The Sidekick 2008 is a decent handset. Functionality is in most areas par-for-the-course and, when it comes to messaging, better than many rivals. However “par-for-the-course” isn’t good enough to stand head & shoulders above the ever-crowded cellphone market. Die-hard Sidekick fans will recognize and appreciate the evolutionary changes, but new buyers may be looking for revolution instead, and we’re not sure the 2008 is the device that delivers. Bottom line: you’ll like it, but we don’t think you’ll love it.” Link.
InfoSync reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “This is definitely the Sidekick to buy, as the T-Mobile Sidekick LX offers little to no benefit over this smaller, cheaper model. But, for the most part, the Sidekick 2008 seems like a step backwards, both in terms of build quality and in terms of the aging interface, which can’t hold a candle to even the cheapest business-style smartphones on the market. We don’t think this phone has the same audience as the T-Mobile Dash, for instance, but when a so-called messaging phone can’t handle threaded SMS conversations or Google Talk for IM, we know it’s fallen way behind the times.” Link.
MobileBurn reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 and writes, “The T-Mobile Sidekick 3 was the first Sidekick that could really compete head to head with regular cell phones and smartphones on features. The new model for 2008 takes those same capabilities and puts them into a competitive form factor, one that is smaller and lighter than the prior models, yet still offers the same - if not better - functionality and features…Fun features like the user designed covers are just going to make the new T-Mobile Sidekick all the more popular. It might not have full smartphone functionality, but it can do most anything that the typical consumer needs. We give it a “Highly Recommended” rating.” Link.
