Samsung U900 Soul Reviews

InfoSync reviews the Samsung SCH-U900 and writes, “One welcome addition that is uncommon for Samsung phones is support for Verizon’s VZ Navigator GPS service. We found the SCH-U900’s business-card scanner to be spotty at best. With a steady hand, most of the text could be read, but it was generally blurry, and very small text was frequently illegible…Verizon is infamous for including the bare minimum with their phones, and the Flipshot is no different, coming with only a charger and a wrist strap. The $200 price point makes the phone attractive, but without some of the essentials to use the advanced features, like a memory card for pics or headphones for music, we’re not so sure it’s a great value.” Link.

MobileBurn reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “The SGH-U900 Soul is a fantastic all-around multimedia cellphone. The camera takes photos that are far better than even Samsung’s own photo-focused G800 can muster, and the music player and most of the other major functions work equally well. Except for the email client, that is. When you add to that a very slick and customizable user interface, and the new morphing touchpad controller, you have yourself a capable device. Package that into a slick little metal body, and well, you have yourself a winner…And that, quite simply, is what the Soul is: a winner. We’re not quite half way through 2008 yet, but it looks like we might have found a contender for the best non-smartphone of the year. The Soul is really that good. As such, we give it a “Highly Recommended” rating.” Link.

Independent.ie reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, ” Whilst the Soul is not a 3G device, web connectivity seemed good with HSDPA but the browser could not help but disappoint. Although it looks like a web browser from your standard handset, I’ve been spoiled by the looks of those from the iPhone and Nokia N95…I think this is one area where all mobile phone manufacturers will change over the next few years as mobile web browsing becomes more commonplace and users begin to expect an interface resembling a scaled-down version of their laptop or desktop web browser.” Link.

3G reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “The Samsung U900 Soul does have its shortcomings. The call quality was not what is expected from a handset of this magnitude, with the ring volume being quite low and even some static occurring on occasions. Furthermore, if you receive a text message while surfing the net, you will have to come out of the WWW before you can read it, rather than the text message appearing over the webpage. In addition, as great as it is, moving from the ‘Magic Touch’ navigation pad to the hard keys can be a tad confusing as one requires a forceful press and the other a mere touch, though this probably just requires a bit of familiarity…Despite these grievances, it’s near impossible to dislike the Samsung Soul. When a handset is described as being an all-rounder, it tends to mean that the phone is competent in all areas without excelling. The Samsung U900 Soul however, is an all-rounder with above average capabilities. Everything from the cracking camera, to Bang & Olufsen enhanced music player, to the ultra-fast internet speeds screams class. And as for the design, well it’s not often that a phone can be so readily customised that you could change your background and user interface everyday for a year and still have more choice.” Link.

Mobile Choice reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “The Samsung U900 Soul does have its shortcomings. The call quality was not what is expected from a handset of this magnitude, with the ring volume being quite low and even some static occurring on occasions. Trusted Reviews has a review of the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “This is a slider handset, and the build is lovely. Tall and thin in repose measuring a tidy 105.9mm tall, 49.5mm wide and 12.9mm thick it feels slightly lanky in my small hands but comfortable nonetheless. The slide is beautifully sprung so that it doesn’t need a lot of force to open or close. Opened, the phone is pretty tall at about 150mm…Magical Touch might be a daft name for the touch interface, but it is very well implemented. Others toying with touchpanels should learn from what Samsung has got right here especially its utilitarian icons, great feedback, user calibration of touch sensitivity and hardware buttons for Call, End and softmenu features.” Link.

CNET Australia reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “Samsung’s U900 is a fitting flagship model with strong, well-performing features. With the right browser, the HSDPA speeds shine, and streaming media is great. The 5-megapixel isn’t class-leading, but is a solid performer, in the same league as Samsung’s G600, and better in our opinion than the camera in the Samsung G800…Telstra’s outright price of AU$849 is probably a touch too expensive for the U900T, however, at the time of writing we have found Vodafone offering the U900 “free” on an AU$49 per month contract which seems about right. The difference will, of course, be the absence of Telstra’s services.” Link.

LetsGoMobile reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “The 5.0 Megapixel digital camera takes excellent pictures, although in poorly lit circumstances the camera fails, resulting in blurred pictures or bleached colours. The latter is mainly due to the limited dynamic range of the image sensor. The media player of the Samsung U900 is not that special yet very useful to play music and video files. The internal memory is reasonable although considering the large size of the pictures, a separate memory card is necessary. The latter is not included. A nice option is the sharing of pictures which can be uploaded to the Internet immediately thanks to the fast Internet connection. The Magical Touch gives the Samsung U900 Soul that little bit of extra to make it stand out from the rest of the models that are currently available.” Link.

IT Reviews reviews the Samsung U900 Soul and writes, “The Soul looks good and the touch interface is well thought through. Great battery life is also a plus point. The camera won’t replace a decent 5-megapixel digital one, but this is a nice all-rounder.” Link.
