Nokia N96 Reviews
CNET Australia reviews the Nokia N96 and writes, “We’re huge fans of the N95 8GB, and this is definitely a cool bit of kit — but we can’t help feeling a little underwhelmed that there isn’t more on offer. Call us greedy but we expected something a touch(screen) more exciting from the Finns.” Link.
Dialaphone reviews the Nokia N96 and writes, “The major upgrade to this phone is that it has a landscape-oriented design. All of the features of the phone are designed to support and enhance this landscape-oriented design. For example, the speakers of the phone are situated in such a way that they are intended for landscape-oriented use. This means that the viewing of videos with audio sound is improved because the landscape orientation allows for a better visual image and the sound is intended to complement that design…The N96 is a great improvement on the already excellent N95. The main reason that people are interested in this phone is because it really allows the user to get rid of extra stand-alone devices (such as cameras, video cameras, and GPS devices) and to instead use this phone alone for all of those features. It is capable of advanced video calling, mobile social networking and high-speed full-function Internet browsing to a degree that few phones on the market are capable of competing with today.” Link.
Trusted Reviews does a first look review of the Nokia N96 and writes, “The N96 feels a bit like a missed opportunity for Nokia. It has honed the design of the N95, true, including more memory (plus expandability), a slightly sleeker design and some additional features, such as internet radio and a DVB-H tuner. It’s an incredibly capable multimedia phone, no doubt, but for one reason or another, it just doesn’t seem a dramatic-enough upgrade to justify the sky-high prices being bandied around right now…Had Nokia endowed the N96 with E71-like build, sleekness and battery life in addition to its innovative audio, video and GPS capabilities, I’d have joined the queue at my local mobile phone emporium. But as it is, it looks set to join its predecessor, the N95, in the the nearly but not quite there stakes.” Link.
MobileBurn reviews the Nokia N96 and writes, “Overall I rate the N96 as “Recommended” as it packs such a huge punch in terms of features and connectivity. However, N95 users should not rush to “upgrade” their phones, because the N96 is hardly a leap in progress. In many ways this is the same device, but with more memory and a different exterior design. Personally I’d have expected to see an 8 megapixel camera here and maybe even a faster processor, too. The N96 therefore lost out on our “Highly Recommended” rating as it seems to be last year’s tech, but in a new casing.” Link.
CNET UK reviews the Nokia N96 and writes, “The N95 was a truly revolutionary product — and the N96 is simply a different evolution of the same thing. It’s a still a great phone that’s bursting at the seams with top-notch features, but it’s not a huge update on the original. Most importantly, it doesn’t provide anywhere near as good a user experience as the iPhone.” Link.
PC Pro reviews the Nokia N96 and writes, “A bigger battery and better build may have just tipped the balance, but as it stands the impressive N96 is neither an iPhone killer, nor worth its rather high £415 asking price.” Link.
