HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator Reviews

Pocket-lint reviews the HP iPAQ 614c and writes, “The HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator is one of those devices where you can see that the company behind it, in this case HP, has said: “Let’s get every technology we can think of and put it in a device that can fit in your pocket.”…The trouble is, somewhere along the line that imaginary pocket has got bigger and bigger until the goal has been achieved but the ability to put it in your pocket has been thrown out of the window…We might forgive it its size if the 614c had a QWERTY keyboard but it doesn’t, making this a great phone for the feature set, but a lousy phone for usability and design.” Link.

Trusted Reviews has a review of the HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator and writes, “The 614c is certainly a well-endowed handset. It’s not the first to squeeze so much into a pocket-sized chassis, but there are a few notable features, such as A-GPS, 7.2Mbps HSDPA and a very fast processor. Only the non-VGA screen could possibly be said to be behind the times…What really puts the mockers on its prospects, however, is the fact that it’s not only a pretty ugly and bulky phone - especially for one without a sliding keyboard - but also one boasting awkward ergonomics. Its innovative touch ring control simply fails to live up to its initial promise and turns out to be more a hindrance than usable addition.” Link.

CNET UK reviews the HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator and writes, “HP has plenty of experience of manufacturing PDAs, but this is only its second ever attempt at producing a smart phone. Its previous offering was the 514 Voice Messenger, which was aimed squarely at the budget end of the market. This iPAQ 614c Business Navigator model is pricier at around £340 sim-free, but packs in more advanced features including HSDPA support and onboard GPS…The 614c has some great features including its HSDPA and GPS support. We also love its virtual scroll wheel and sturdy build quality. However, it’s a shame that the battery lacks oomph and that HP hasn’t managed to package the phone in a more slimline and elegant design.” Link.

IT Week reviews the HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator and writes, “We found the iPaq 614 quite a handy compromise between the larger Pocket PC-style devices and smaller smartphones, and its larger 2.8in display is easier to read, especially when viewing web pages. HP has supplemented the standard phone dialling pad with several shortcuts such as a Windows menu key, OK button, and Clear and Enter keys. There are also two context-sensitive keys beneath the display. At 145g, it is also light for its size…However, despite HP’s efforts to make this a device for one-handed operation, we found there were occasions when it was easier to accomplish tasks by using the stylus, stored behind the bottom left of the iPaq. We could not close some windows without tapping the screen, for example.” Link.
