BlackBerry Curve 8330 Reviews

Mobile Magazine reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and writes, “At the end of the day, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 from Bell Mobility is not exactly a revolutionary device, because we’ve already had the opportunity to toy with a Curve in GSM land. Even so, I feel that it is probably the best BlackBerry available from Bell today, thanks to its good QWERTY keyboard, wealth of applications, and intuitive trackball. I like the inclusion of integrated GPS, but you have to pay each time you use it ($3.50/day or $10.00/month). This is in addition to the data costs associated with downloading maps…If your company has its corporate account set up with Bell Mobility and they ask which BlackBerry you would like, the Curve 8330 is certainly a very solid option. For international travelers, the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition may be a better option though, because it has an unlocked SIM card slot for foreign GSM providers.” Link.

PC Mag reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and writes, “Sprint ’s version of the new BlackBerry Curve 8330 takes Verizon’s version and improves on it in several ways: by adding mobile TV, over-the-air music downloads, more robust instant-messaging options, and a powerful information aggregator. In fact, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 is a top-notch smartphone—and our new Editors’ Choice for Sprint, taking the title away from last year’s BlackBerry 8830. The new Curve 8330’s power, along with a wide array of capabilities, makes it ideal for both work and play…Like all Windows Mobile devices, it connects seamlessly to Microsoft Exchange servers, lets you synchronize your contacts and calendar, and offers robust Microsoft Word and Excel document editing (along with PowerPoint viewing). But its extended-life battery adds bulk, and Windows Mobile handsets have convoluted interfaces that require too many button presses for common tasks. And among BlackBerry models, the BlackBerry 8830 is still an excellent option for world travelers, particularly since (unlike the comparable Verizon version) its GSM slot is unlocked, meaning that you have plenty of carrier options when traveling overseas. But it’s the BlackBerry Curve 8330 that sets the new standard, earning our Editors’ Choice award for Sprint smartphones.” Link.

PC Mag reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 (Verizon) and writes, “…You’ll pay significantly more per month for this device on Verizon than you would on Sprint. That’s despite the fact that the Sprint version has more built-in software (notably, Handmark Pocket Express and AIM, Google Talk, and Yahoo! IM clients), as well as genuine mobile TV and over-the-air music buying options…Despite this, the BlackBerry Curve 8330 easily nabs our Editors’ Choice for top Verizon smartphone, taking it away from the BlackBerry 8830. The 8830, however, is still a good option if you plan on traveling to Europe, since you can make use of its GSM slot to retain your phone number. Verizon also offers a bevy of Windows Mobile smartphones, each with its own virtues. But until we see a CDMA-compatible version of the BlackBerry Bold 9000—which is still months away—the Curve 8330 is your best bet on Verizon.” Link.

CNET reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 (Sprint) and writes, “We imagine Sprint customers have been waiting a long time for this, but the time has finally come. Yes, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 is now available, and it brings the same great design of its GSM counterparts and even adds 3G to boot. Like the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8310 for AT&T, the Curve 8330 has integrated GPS so you can use it with Sprint Navigation or some other mobile mapping application to get driving directions and local search right on your smartphone. It also offers Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera with video recording, and BlackBerry’s tried-and-true messaging capabilities… The only downsides were the lack of Wi-Fi and the less-than-pristine call quality. That said, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 is still worth it. Plus, Sprint’s version of the Curve offers support for the carrier’s multimedia services and more instant-messaging clients, making it a better value than the Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Curve. The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Sprint is available now for $179.99 with a two-year contract and after rebates and discounts.” Link.

InfoSync reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 (Sprint) and writes, “The Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 differs little from the recent Verizon Wireless version of the same device, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing (compare Curve smartphones). The same soft touch paint accents are there, though they stand out less against the phone’s drab grey exterior. The interface bears many of the same features, but the darker colors of Sprint’s default screens make the icons a little harder to read than on Verizon’s device, which had a bright, white backdrop…Still, the differences are minimal, and an intrepid user will have no problem finding the right theme available for download if the Sprint and default BlackBerry themes aren’t your thing. Overall, we like the design of this phone very much, and found it comfortable to hold during long calls. The full-QWERTY keyboard was large enough, without forcing the phone into gigantic proportions.” Link.

MobileTechReview has a review of the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and writes, “CDMA users who admired the BlackBerry Curve from a distance can now get their hands on this messaging smartphone sprinkled with a touch of multimedia. Despite the complicated backend server support for everything under the sun (Lotus Domino, MS Exchange, Novel GroupWise, etc.), the email is extremely easy to set up and use for a regular Joe. The web browser, though not top notch, gets the job done, especially if you turn on all the options for tables and etc. (but watch out for the Javascript option, it can bring the browser to its knees on some sites)…We wish the Verizon Curve had V CAST support and the Sprint Curve had better Sprint TV software. But in the end, CrackBerry users who like to have a full QWERTY BlackBerry with GPS, EVDO, stereo Bluetooth and a decent camera will be just happy to live with the Curve 8330.” Link.

PC Mag reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 (Attell) and writes, “Ah, the joy of a BlackBerry Curve. One of our favorite smartphones ever, the Curve just works—and that goes for Alltel’s model too. It’s a great buy for anyone who wants a terrific phone with unparalleled messaging, excellent media features, and a bit of Web thrown into the mix. One complaint, though: Alltel could have done a little more to set its model apart from the pack…RIM’s forthcoming BlackBerry OS 4.5 will include support for Microsoft Office document editing through DataViz’s DocumentsToGo program, and Alltel will offer a free upgrade to Curve owners. That combined with the standard Curve features, such as the great camera, including video recording; the terrific BlackBerry messaging, including both SMS and MMS; and the new PC software, which helps transfer music and videos over from Windows XP and Vista PCs to the phone, makes Alltel’s Curve 8330 as much a winner as its Verizon and Sprint cousins. We think it’s the best balance of smartphone functionality for Alltel subscribers.” Link.

PDA Street reviews the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and writes, “Rejoice o ye CDMAites! The Curve is come! Praise the lord and pass the PDAs! …If you do want an all-in-one device, though, the Curve 8330 is a pretty good one. It offers BlackBerry’s unbeatable e-mail experience, a great interface and a Swiss army knife’s worth of functions - music and video playing, still and video photography, phone, broadband modem, GPS navigator. Who needs anything else?” Link.
