T-Mobile Sidekick LX Reviews

CrunchGear reviews the T-Mobile sidekick LX and writes, “What the LX has done is remind me why I love the Sidekick series. It’s simple, easy-to-use, and stylish. The keyboard adds an amazing level of fluidity to everyday communication without the rigmarole of similar smartphones. And, I can say this with absolute certainty, the Sidekick IM support is the best there is. Nothing — I don’t care if it’s under WinMo, Palm, or Symbian — offers a similar and more immediate experience. Plus it comes with a carrying case.” Link.

CNET reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “OK, kids–hope you’ve been nice this year, because here’s something you might want to add to your holiday wish list. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX is one of two new Sidekicks (the other being the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide) to land on the carrier’s doorstep, and it’s a beauty. The LX boasts a slimmer and lighter design and much to our delight, a sharper (and larger) screen. The difference between the LX and previous models like the T-Mobile Sidekick 3 and Sidekick iD is truly remarkable.” Link.

PC Mag reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “The cultural appeal of the Sidekick has something to do with the flashing disco lights, loud swooshing alert sounds, and even its large, obvious size. I just find it bulky and a bit obnoxious. And the smarter crowd among the Sidekick’s youth market seems to be starting to agree. Paris Hilton still has a Sidekick. Hilary Duff, on the other hand, has a BlackBerry. Who would you rather be with?…That said, there is one big reason to get the Sidekick: It’s big. The big, comfortable keyboard and large screen are easy on the fingers and the eyes, a refreshing change in a world where devices are getting more and more tiny and cramped. If you’re looking for a messaging device and the superior Curve just seems a little too small, the LX will be for you.” Link.

InfoSync reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “At one point, the Sidekick dominated one of our messaging duel reviews, and it is still an admirable messaging phone. However, better devices surpassed the Sidekick 3 months ago, and the new Sidekick LX does little to improve on the older design. The new screen is top notch, what we’ve been asking for all this time, and the new keyboard is an improvement even over the Sidekick 3. However, it was not enough to simply fix what was broken. With this new device, we wanted to see a bit more, and see it grow the messaging category beyond the breadth of phones now coming to the market. Undoubtedly, the Sidekick brand will live on, and we hope to see a new device fully up to speed (3G speed?) when the time comes.” Link.

SlashGear reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “Other features I didn’t use were the calendar, picture messaging, the music player, or myFaves, but they are all on there, and I looked at them, and they all seem fairly straightforward and easy to use. I can’t express how much I love this device. Honestly, I would love to give it a perfect 5 out of 5 gears, but I can’t quite say it’s perfect, so it gets a 4.5 out of 5 gears.” Link.

MobileBurn reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “The Sidekick LX is a worthy addition to the Sidekick family, and the 3.5mm audio jack and impressive display are very welcome. The battery life is ample for enjoying all of the features of the handset without having to hunt for a charger throughout the day. However, the camera is merely decent for a 1.3 megapixel, and leaves something to be desired with the lack of video capture and more image editing options. The build quality is superb, and the instant messaging and music player applications should be copied by all. Despite the lack of proper desktop sync and the absence of Java applications, I would rate the Sidekick LX as Highly Recommended.” Link.

LaptopMag reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “In the end, the Sidekick LX makes some solid headway in the user-interface department, but it falls woefully short in making the device a viable option for more professional users; poor reception and slow GPRS speeds are productivity killers in the adult world…While the LX’ slimmer, more sophisticated design is a small step in the right direction to branch out to a wider audience, the flashing go-go lights are sure to scare off thirtysomethings. If you’re in your twenties and are looking for that hip-yet-respectable quotient in a phone with a full keyboard, you’d be better served with the Mogul by HTC, which offers 3G connectivity, or the Helio Ocean, which has greater cachet.” Link.

MobileTechReview has a review of the T-Mobile SideKick LX and writes, “The Sidekick LX is the flagship device in the Sidekick family and is by far the best Sidekick device we’ve seen. It has a large and bright WQVGA screen, very useable QWERTY keyboard, good RF, fast data, and a very good music experience. The large body may not be your cup of tea but the design is cool for many diehard Sidekick users. The June feature update added some important features (video recording, A2DP and alarm clock), and even though the video quality isn’t that good compared to feature phones with better cameras,.. Sidekick users have waited for a long time for video, especially video messaging. If you are a Sidekick ID user looking to upgrade, the Sidekick LX is the natural choice; unless you are a diehard Tony Hawk fan also, in which case you should save your pennies for the Tony Hawk limited edition of Sidekick LX coming this summer.” Link.

Digital Trends reviews the T-Mobile Sidekick LX and writes, “As we mentioned earlier, this is definitely a phone designed for people who want to use a QWERTY keyboard a lot, since Sidekicks have the best physical keyboard around. The phone’s overall size is easy to overlook when you consider the roomy screen and button layout, and the 3.5-mm headphone jack makes the LX a viable music player too…Gabbers will be sorely disappointed with the LX’s call quality and may find T-Mobile’s coverage lacking. Mobile Web surfers would do far better with an iPhone 3G, which actually costs less than the Sidekick LX. And if it’s a cameraphone you’re in need of, there are plenty of phones with better cameras, like the Nokia N95.” Link.
