Sprint Mogul by HTC: Reviews
LaptopMag has a review of the HTC Mogul and writes, “Overall performance using Windows Mobile 6 was smoother than on the T-Mobile Wing, thanks to the Mogul’s faster 400-MHz processor, whether we were working in Word Mobile or looking up one of hundreds of contacts by typing the few first letters of the person’s name. We just wish this device had more RAM. With only 48MB of user-accessible memory, we were greeted with a “Low on Memory” notification a couple of times when we had five or more programs open. Unfortunately, as with other WM6 devices, apps don’t close when you exit; you have to go under Settings and click Stop.” Link.
CNET has a review of the Sprint Mogul by HTC and writes, “The Sprint Mogul gets a bump in memory over that of the Sprint PPC-6700 with 256MB of ROM (versus 128MB) and 64MB of RAM, but it has a slightly slower 400MHz Intel PXA250 processor (compared to 416MHz). Still, it can’t quite keep pace with heavy multitaskers. The apps are memory hogs, and with only about 17MB of free program memory, it fills up pretty fast. On more than one occasion we got the message that there wasn’t enough memory to launch a program. You can stop running programs by going to Settings > System > Memory. You can also alleviate some of the problem by taking advantage of the microSD slot.” Link.
MobileTechReview has a review of the HTC Mogul and writes, “A very strong offering from Sprint, and a worthy, if not overdue, successor to the PPC-6700. The Mogul is manageable in size, powerful in terms of processing performance and storage memory and it has fast EVDO (with a promised upgrade to the faster Rev. A) for pleasingly fast data performance. WiFi will keep you connected when not in an EVDO coverage area (also handy if you turn down Sprint’s data plan), and Bluetooth 2.0 means you can use your favorite Bluetooth headset and car kit with the phone. We also like the fact there’s a Java runtime included, previously a rarity on CDMA Windows Mobile phones. There’s a lot to like about this PDA phone and our only complaints are the lack of an MMS client and the mediocre camera shots.” Link.
Infosync has a review of the HTC Mogul and gives the smartphone an 84%: “Across the board, the HTC Mogul is a very good phone, though there is certainly some room for improvement. Windows Mobile 6 adds some convenient features, and PPC-6700 owners might want to upgrade for the improvements, but we were disappointed by poor call quality and a processor that couldn’t keep up with the demands of the bulky system. Not too disappointed, mind you, because the Mogul handles messaging as well as the best smartphones around, and business users won’t be disappointed by the PIM functions or the tethered modem support, especially after Sprint’s EV-DO rev. A upgrade.” Link.
PCMag has a review of the Sprint Mogul by HTC and writes, “Do I sound slightly lukewarm about the Mogul? Maybe, but I honestly recommend it nonetheless. For Windows Mobile aficionados, folks who want to use Windows Media Player on their PCs, or anyone that needs Windows Mobile’s tight connection with Exchange 2007 servers—this is Sprint’s best option. In fact, it’s more powerful than the Motorola Q, and Sprint’s other smartphones are all beginning to look outdated. If the compromises of Windows Mobile daunt you and you want something simpler, look at the BlackBerry 8703e. Otherwise, definitely pick this up if you’re looking for modern smartphone power on Power Vision.” Link.
MobileBurn has a review of the HTC Mogul for Sprint and they say, “While it is not the perfect device for Joe Consumer, the HTC Mogul on Sprint is a fine device for business users and those that just require a bit more computing power than what is offered by non-smartphone devices…The Mogul’s combination of speedy EV-DO and WiFi connectivity, along with its large display and QWERTY keyboard, make for a do-anything device that is worthy of your consideration. While I consider HTC’s own T-Mobile Wing to be a bit more consumer friendly, there are few devices on the market today that can compare with the Mogul when it comes to getting down to business. It isn’t quite the same as having your laptop with you, but it is as close as you can probably get in a device that fits in your pocket…I give the HTC Mogul a “Highly Recommended” rating. It is solidly built, feature packed, and totally ready to get to work.” Link.
Gadgetnutz reviews the Sprint Mogul. Sweet and to the point they say, “All in all this is a wonderful phone with a few minor problems. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.” Check out the full review to learn why. Link.
Mobility Site reviews the Sprint Mogul and writes, “It doesn’t have the tilt screen or the built-in GPSr like the AT&T 8525 but, as a Verizon customer, I can take consolation that my service provider will do all that it can to make a device with those specs available to me sometime in 2010! In the meantime, I think I could live with the Mogul. The good news is that Verizon is supposed to be launching their version of the Mogul, dubbed the VX8600, sometime in November 2007. The bad news is, rumors of the VX6800 being offered by Verizon have been circulating for over a year!..In my opinion the Mogul has all the features of a great PDA and a pretty decent phone as well. Finally, I don’t have to choose either one or the other! This is what convergence was meant to be. Overall, I’d give the HTC Mogul a rating of 8.5 out of 10. I’d put it on my highly recommended list of devices. In fact, it’s now at the top of my personal “Want” list.” Link.
