Palm Treo 750 Reviews
PCMag has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “Call quality and volume are absolutely terrific, some of the best I’ve heard in a long time. And the quad-band radio is able to hit even higher-speed UMTS networks in foreign countries. … The new Treo 750 is a very good phone and basic connected PDA. It’s an even better phone than the Treo 680. But its high price and small screen make me reluctant to recommend it over the Treo 680, the Samsung BlackJack, and the BlackBerry Pearl on the one side and the Cingular 8525 on the other.” Link.
Infosync reviews the Palm Treo 750 and concludes, “When we reviewed the Treo 700wx, we said the Treo was tethered to the fortunes of Windows Mobile, so it is no surprise that Palm has spent some time updating the Windows Mobile experience on the 750. As it stands, Palm’s version of Windows Mobile is the best on the market by far, because it behaves more like the Palm OS, with its one-touch access to your favorite applications and helpful options, like the “Ignore with Text” option for incoming calls. The device itself is starting to show its age: its smaller keyboard and lower resolution screen place it more in the realm of thin smartphones such as the Motorola Q and Samsung BlackJack. From a design perspective, we’ve come to like the Cingular 8525’s form more than the Palm, but the Palm is unbeatable in terms of what’s inside.” Link.
MobileTechReview has a review up of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “No, it’s not an earth-shattering Treo, but it’s by no means a re-warmed Treo 700wx either. The Treo 750 offers very good performance with a new CPU, an improved camera, enhanced video playback, a more solid Bluetooth implementation in a lighter, slimmer, antenna-less casing. And best of all for Cingular customers, a Windows Mobile Treo is finally available for GSM! While we found some Treo models too quiet (i.e.: the Treo 650) and only average on call quality, the Treo 750 is both loud and land line clear. And being a Treo, it feels absolutely great in hand. All in all, Palm’s usability customizations and great hardware design make the Treo 750 an obvious choice for those on the go who crave one-handed operation and ease of use along with the power of Windows Mobile.” Link.
LaptopMag has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “Part of what sets the 750 apart from its Treo siblings is that Palm has added several elements to make the phone and messaging features easier and quicker to access. For example, the 750 has a handy threaded chat view for text and MMS. This feature made sending text and MMS messages to other mobile phones and to e-mail addresses a breeze because the messages are housed in one area. The device comes with Pocket MSN as well; this allowed us to view our Hotmail e-mail as well as send instant messages to folks on MSN Messenger. … Cingular users who are looking for a Treo that can surf the Web at near-broadband speeds will find a lot to like with the Treo 750. Add in Palm’s phone and messaging enhancements to Windows Mobile 5.0 and you’ve got a winner.” Link.
CNET has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “Overall, we enjoyed relatively snappy performance from the Treo 750, though there were some slight delays when opening several Office documents. The Web-browsing experience was also good, as pages loaded fairly quickly; when the HSPDA support is added, it should give the download speeds a nice boost. We weren’t all that impressed with the multimedia performance. Music playback through the phone’s speaker was tinny, and we really had to turn up the volume to hear the track. Consequently, this made the song sound blown-out.” Link.
PCWorld has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “The 750 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition. It comes with a dedicated Windows start key and a touch screen that makes navigating the device–and its sometimes tricky OS–easy. Its QWERTY thumb keyboard is easier to use than those on past Treos, but it still feels cramped, and the domed keys feel slippery and stiff compared to those on competing PDA phones. … Overall, the Treo 750 is a good-looking device with impressive business features–and it will be even better once it includes support for the HSDPA network. But you’d better to keep your battery charger nearby, because you’ll need to use it often.” Link.
Brighthand has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “If Office Mobile were better (the improvements within Windows Mobile 6’s version of Office Mobile speak towards all issues), then the Treo 750 would be a better device to stand on its own. However, those deficiencies keep it more the PDA than smartphone star. That is not to take away from Palm though. The Treo 750 is a remarkable device and finally brings to U.S. GSM customers the Palm and Windows Mobile experience that Verizon and Sprint users have had for the past year. The slimmer profile and Exchange integration can make this easily a replacement for many BlackBerry outfits, and it is still stylish enough to not be a complete party pooper if you pull it out with your friends to shoot off a text message. It’s a business device that can play after hours.” Link.
PDAStreet has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, ” Using the Treo 750 is a pleasure thanks to some Palm software touches. You can create thumbnail portraits of your contacts, then create a photo speed dial list on your Today screen. You can also search the Web directly from your Today screen, saving you the trouble of opening the Web browser first. If you receive a call when you’re busy, you can choose to ignore it with text, to send a message to the caller. We also like the ability to choose any imported MP3 as a ringtone or the novel ability to use videos as video ringtones. … While it’s made up of small improvements, they add up to a significantly better package. We’d still like to see a design overhaul, but the Treo 750 is a great choice for business users who need to keep in touch.” Link.
Digital Trends has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “We were surprised by the supposedly speedy UMTS service. In informal side-by-side speed tests, an EDGE-enabled Blackberry 8700c filled Web pages nearly twice as fast as the vaunted UMTS-powered 750. We obviously expected the opposite result, or at least equal speed to an EDGE device given the vagaries of any cell network. … There’s no denying the wealth of technology kneaded into this phone. But its capabilities run in direct disproportion to its functionality, and its current price is a mystery when similarly-spec’d phones such as the already HSDPA-equipped, Cingular video capable Samsung Blackjack are nearly half the 750’s price.” Link.
PCAuthority has a review of the Palm Treo 750 and writes, “Palm has focused on usability, including some improvements that sit on top of the WM5 platform. It’s retained some traditional Treo features, such as the switch on the top of the device to toggle between ring and vibrate, but also added innovations such as a threaded SMS chat client, Google search from the home screen, photo-based quick-dialling and transport controls when accessing voicemail. … Only the lack of Wi-Fi keeps it off the A-List.” Link.
Palm Infocenter has a review of the Treo 750 and they say, “Palm have a lot to be proud of in the Treo 750. Sure, the hardware’s a little outdated. The standard Treo form factor has seen distressingly little change over the years. And Windows Mobile has its… quirks. But overall, it’s an extremely versatile device that can, out of-the-box, handle nearly anything you throw at it (except perhaps a house brick), and the wide variety of third-party software available makes it endlessly customisable. For the corporate user it’s easily one of the best mobile solutions currently available and comes highly recommended.” Link.
