Nokia N76 Reviews
CNET Australia has a first take review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “Developed in Germany, the dual-mode N76 is a quad band GSM phone (850/900/1800/1900) with support for 3G UMTS (2100). It is extremely thin and surprisingly light for a 3G handset, measuring 106.5mm by 52mm by 13.7mm and weighing a mere 115 grams. Dedicated music keys on the front of the clamshell sit below the external LCD display, which acts as a camera viewfinder or music browser when in use, but looks like a mirror when the phone is idle. Power-saving LEDs above the screen indicate the phone is switched on. … After using the N76 for a couple of minutes, we also noticed the mirror exterior is extremely fingerprint-prone.” Link.
MobileBurn has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “The Nokia N76 looks great on paper, but of course is not perfect in real life. Apart from the HTC Star Trek (Qtek 8500/Dopod S300) which is quite outdated by now, this device does not have any direct competition in the thin smartphone department. Apart from a few design glitches such as the earphone jack that gets in the way with the flip and the poor battery life, the N76 seems to deliver what is has promised. It is sleek and powerful.” Link.
Infosync has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “The Nokia N76 is a frustrating phone when you realize just how much better it must be abroad. The phone’s performance is a bit more zippy than the N75, and it includes niceties like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a slick design. Still, the lack of 3G support is a real let down, and though we hate it when carriers muck up the features on our favorite phones, in this case we wish a carrier would step in and make things better, like e-mail, IM and PlaysForSure support, all of which are better (or available) on the N75.” Link.
LaptopMag has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “For this review, we popped in a Cingular SIM card with nary a hiccup. Surfing Cingular’s EDGE data network was relatively quick, with simple Web pages downloading in eight to ten seconds. For more complex pages, however, Nokia’s included browser was abysmal. CNN.com took more than 40 seconds to load completely, and we experienced repeated crashes. Stability is most definitely not the N76’s forté. … There’s a lot be said about the N76’s freedom and versatility. However, if style is your game–and $499 is your price ceiling–you’d look cooler with an iPhone. If the sky’s the limit, consider the $749 Nokia N95, which sports GPS and an even sharper 5-MP camera.” Link.
Crunchgear has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “Clearly, especially at $499, the N76 is not for everyone. It looks great and is quite peppy, but there are other, more powerful, N-series phones out there. If you’re looking for a smartphone with a bit of class, this is a great way to go. If you’re looking for a workhorse — maybe even with keyboard — look elsewhere.” Link.
PCMag has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “There’s no denying that Nokia’s slimmest, best-looking flip phone yet, the N76, is a powerful, unlocked smartphone. The terrible truth, though, is that this handset is dragged down by a string of design and software flaws. Its short battery life and lack of a fast wireless data connection are deeply disappointing. … The final nail in the coffin was battery life. The N76 uses the same 700-mAh battery as the 3G N75, whose battery life was pathetic. Because EDGE takes less power than 3G does, the N76 has more talk time, but music playback time is still stuck at 8 hours 20 minutes—and I’d expect less than two days of use on a charge.” Link.
Trusted Reviews has a review of the Nokia N76 and writes, “I came out of this review somewhat disappointed with the Nokia N76. It doesn’t breech any new ground, which as an N series handset I think it should. And there are plenty of alternatives offering a comparable range of features. If you want a pointer take a look at the already mentioned N73. Among its plusses are a better camera, Wi-Fi, far superior battery life and a tidy overall design. SIM free it is cheaper direct from Nokia too – by a considerable margin.” Link.
LetsGoMobile reviews the Nokia N76 and writes, “The Nokia N76 is a true multimedia mobile phone with many options. Nevertheless there are a few things I am missing. Sometimes it is hard to open the flap with one hand, because there isn’t a raised up edge. To me personally, the phone is lacking a WiFi function, which would make it possible to use the Internet via HotSpots or at home via the WLAN network. The options that the mobile does have function well. When the headphones are connected, the flap can’t be opened completely, which makes it hard to read an incoming SMS message meanwhile. The camera performs pretty average and misses an auto focus. All in all, the Nokia N76 is a nice multimedia phone with a few very fun features. The Nokia N76 will not bore you easily.” Link.
Register Hardware reviews the Nokia N76 and writes, “Fashion accessory or smart phone? The N76 is easy to use, comes with a reasonable suite of functions and - in red at least - doesn’t look half bad. The music player is top drawer, while the web browser isn’t too shabby either. Avoid the black, unless you really like polishing things.” Link.
CNET UK reviews the Nokia N76 and writes, “The N76 has excellent dual screens, impressive smartphone features and very good music performance. Its wonky design and poor battery life make it hard to recommend, however. So while this handset may be in the same range as the excellent N95, it’s definitely not in the same class.” Link.
