CNET Australia reviews the HTC S730 and writes, “Like the Dopod C500, the HTC S730 is the QWERTY device for the undecided. It’s convenient to slide the keyboard out when the need arises and hides away neatly to assume the look of a traditional candy-bar phone.” Link.

Trusted Reviews has a review of the HTC S730 and writes, “Overall, then, I expected a lot from the HTC S730, but the device didn’t deliver. It is certainly an update to consider if you are a fan of its predecessor, but it doesn’t draw the attention quite as much as it could do.” Link.

CNET UK reviews the HTC S730 and writes, “The S730 is an update to the S710, but there’s little significant improvement apart from the addition of 3G/HSDPA connectivity. For example, the main camera remains at 2 megapixels, which is somewhat entry-level by today’s standards. The newer device even takes a backward step: it’s a little heavier; some users may find the button layout less convenient; and the battery life is lower. Whether you go for the S730 will depend largely on how much you need 3G.” Link.

IT Reviews has a review of the HTC S730 and writes, “HTC’s S730 updates an older device, the S710. It is a funny thing about hardware updates: when the original is groundbreaking, the update can sometimes appear a let-down. There is an analogy with bands who amaze and astound with their first album and then have trouble with the tricky second one…HTC has put its own Today screen onto the device, and this can be used to do things like view a weather report and forecast, get to your speed dials and set alarms quickly and easily. Anyone who has seen TouchFLO on an HTC Touch will recognise the look, although here, without a touch-screen, the feature set is more limited.” Link.

PC Pro reviews the HTC S730 and writes, “The S730 is the latest incarnation of HTC’s popular sliding-keyboard candy bar smartphone. We looked at the previous version (in Orange SPV E650 clothing) in our Smartphone Labs in issue 160 (web ID: 145113), and found it to be a superb phone, albeit one hampered by a lack of high-speed mobile data. The S730 addresses this, providing 3G and HSDPA for rapid internet access…Having 3G onboard means video calling is available, too. The CPU speed has increased, as has the overall size of the phone, although only slightly. You also get Wi-Fi, and annoyingly we believe there’s also a GPS receiver inside the device, although HTC hasn’t enabled it. But even without GPS, it’s still a fantastic phone.” Link.
