Samsung SGH-i760 Reviews

PC Mag reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “The BlackBerry 8830 will still appeal to world travelers and folks who are intensely focused on e-mail, but if you need the power and flexibility of Windows Mobile, the i760 is the best Verizon choice—for now. But knowing what’s coming down the pike, I already find myself pitting the i760 against two other Windows Mobile phones, both from UT Starcom: the XV6800 and the SMT5800, sliding 400-Mhz Windows Mobile phones that Verizon will release before the end of the year. According to its spec sheet, the SMT5800 has the same dual-keypad layout, 400-Mhz speed, and a better (2MP) camera, but, as far as I can tell, no Wi-Fi. The XV6800 has a bigger screen and Wi-Fi, but no dual keypad.” Link.

CNET reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like the Samsung SCH-i760 for Verizon Wireless was worth the wait. This highly anticipated Windows Mobile 6 smartphone features a slider design that opens up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, and yes, while we’ve seen these type of devices before (e.g., the Sprint Mogul), how many of them had an external dialpad? Zilch. But more than design, the i760 offers business users a full-featured device with messaging capabilities, various wireless options (EV-DO, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi), and good performance. It certainly has its downfalls: the handset is bulky and Verizon has curiously omitted some cool features, like Windows Live integration and V Cast services. It’s also pricey at $349.99 with a two-year contract and after rebates, but for Verizon customers looking for a corporate-centric smartphone, the Samsung SCH-i760 is a solid choice.” Link.

PC World reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “The Samsung SCH-i760 is a worthy smart phone upgrade for Verizon users, especially if you need to buy a phone now–it’s the best Windows Mobile smart phone currently available from Verizon. But if you don’t need a new phone right away, I recommend waiting until the Verizon XV6800 and Verizon SMT5800 come out later this year, to see how they compare to the SCH-i760. Then decide on the smart phone that’s best for you.” Link.

LaptopMag reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “Battery life was okay, but talking with Wi-Fi on drained the standard battery in about 2 hours. We recommend using the included extended battery, which lasted much longer. Although it adds nearly an ounce to the weight, it’s only slightly bulkier…If you can overlook its design flaws, the Samsung SCH-i760’s best features–call quality, comfy keyboard, and Wi-Fi–make it a decent choice for road warriors.” Link.

PDA Street reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “Elegance maters, Samsung: You can create all the feature-rich phones you want, but they’re not going to excite the public’s imagination if they look like the SCH-i760. Maybe you could lure a few designers away from Apple…On paper, the SCH-i760 triumphs over the iPhone because of its no-compromise set of specs. It offers Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), EV-DO connectivity, a slide-out keyboard, Bluetooth, a 1.3mp camera, and a microSD memory card slot…And yet, its sturdy, boxy design makes it purely a business phone, unlikely to attract users who care about a phone’s looks.” Link.

Wi-Fi Planet reviews the Samsung SGH-i760 and writes, “The i760 is a phone that doesn’t say no, with its robust list of features. We enjoyed fast surfing and e-mail downloading in our testing, using either the EV-DO support or connecting to a home Wi-Fi network…Corporate users will appreciate the Microsoft Push e-mail support, which allows live access from a company’s mail server. While some sites have said this phone has A-GPS (network assisted GPS, which relies on the cellular network for positioning), it doesn’t offer GPS at all.” Link.
