Pocket-lint reviews the Toshiba Camelio Pro and writes, “Despite the range of settings to give control to the user, we found the best results came from auto, as these play to the camcorders shortcomings. Of course, at this price, sacrifices have been made, but can you live with those sacrifices?..Given the quality of the outdoor performance, we’d say quite possibly, but if you intend to do a lot of filming indoors, then you might want to think again. The limited zoom is also a consideration when you are outside, so this will be of little use when you can’t get close to your subject, but for filming the kids in the garden, then the Toshiba Camileo Pro HD represents great value for money.” Link.
CNET UK reviews the Toshiba Camelio Pro and writes, “As a lightweight, basic and extremely affordable camcorder, the Camileo Pro does the job. That said, we can’t help but wonder why Toshiba has chosen to make the Camileo Pro a camcorder, as its video quality is not the biggest draw…A digital stills camera with exactly the same specs, extras and price would be an interestingly feature-rich model, while as a camcorder, the Camileo Pro represents something of a compromise. Still, it’s a fun, accessible little shooter with some big ideas and deserves credit for being affordable, at £135, without feeling cheap.” Link.
Trusted Reviews has a review of the Toshiba Camelio Pro and writes, “Despite Toshiba having such a strong presence in other areas of the audiovisual market, it has stopped making digital cameras and hasn’t focused much attention on camcorders - until this year. Following hot on the heels of the high-end Gigashot A100FE is another high definition contender. But where the Gigashot uses a capacious 100GB hard disk for video storage, the Camileo Pro HD relies purely on flash memory. So it’s much smaller, weighing just 180g, and could easily fit in a pocket. Its price is positively anorexic, too…The Camileo Pro HD’s lack of features and poor video performance in non-optimal conditions mean it doesn’t really warrant the ‘Pro’ in its name. But then you’re not paying anything like a Pro-level price, either. At under £150, the Toshiba isn’t far off a compact digital camera. Yet it can shoot much better video than any still image snapper or mobile phone. So whilst this isn’t the camcorder to kick-start your own videomaking business, it’s exceptional value for shooting video destined for YouTube.” Link.
