Pure Digital Flip Mino Reviews

CNET reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “In the end, despite a couple of small gripes, we came away feeling good about the Mino. The more compact design makes the device even more pocket-friendly than the Ultra and the addition of the rechargeable battery will save you money in the long run (because you don’t have to keep buying batteries). While 2GB of memory will be ample for most people, we would have appreciated an expansion slot for more memory and it’s a bit irritating that the battery isn’t removable and replaceable…The big question, of course, is whether the Mino is worth $80 or $90 more than competing models from Creative and RCA, or $30 more than the company’s own Flip Video Ultra, or if it has the same value as a similarly priced but more full-featured digital camera. They’re all debatable–and ideally the Mino would cost less than $150–but when you’re No. 1 in your category, you can frequently get away with charging a little more.

PC World reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “Besides the pocket camcorder itself, you get a few other goodies with the Mino’s price of admission: a protective pouch, an RCA cable for watching your clips on a standard TV, a wrist strap, and basic but clear documentation. Creative’s Vado has a bargain-bin price, but as Pure Digital’s Flip Mino shows, you get what you pay for: The $180 Flip Mino is the clearly the better camcorder of the two. If video quality is what you’re after, or if you use a Mac, the Flip Mino is worth the extra scratch.” Link.

Macworld reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “My greatest desire is that you’ve read this far rather than looked at the mouse rating and thought, “Huh, not such a terrific camcorder after all.” Because although the video quality produced by the Flip Mino is anything but pristine, this affordable and useful camera—with its go-anywhere, shirt-pocket convenience and simple operation—could turn out to be one of your favorite gadgets. If you’re mainly concerned with capturing those moments when you don’t have time to find a “real” camcorder (and, for most of us, that’s nearly all the time) and you’re far less concerned with results that may look marginal-to-middling on your TV, the Mino could easily be for you.” Link.

Telegragh reviews the Pure digital Flip Mino and writes, “One of the Flip’s major selling points is the fact its an ‘integrated’ gadget: the USB stick to transfer your video clips onto a computer is built into the Mino, and flips out at the touch of a button (hence the name)…Each Mino is pre-installed with editing software that automatically boots up as soon as you plug the device into a computer, importing all your footage and providing a quick and easy way of editing and splicing together everything you’ve filmed.” Link.

CNET reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “In the end, the MinoHD marks another step forward for Flip Video and mini camcorders in general. The device isn’t without its drawbacks: a relatively high price tag, no memory expansion slot, and a short-lived, nonremovable battery. The big question, of course, is whether the Mino is better than the Kodak Zi6. We think so: though some may like the larger Zi6, with its bigger LCD, the MiniHD’s video quality is a little better and its smaller design will appeal to people looking for a camcorder that barely makes a bulge in your pocket.” Link.

Macworld reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “The Flip MinoHD is a step ahead for the Flip family. Like its sibling, it’s easily packed into a pocket or purse, it holds enough video for its intended purpose, and the case-customization option is very slick and likely to appeal to the Mino’s target audience—young people looking for a fun-to-use, easy-to-operate camcorder. And it handles ultra low light better than the competition. If, on the other hand, you can put up with a slightly bulkier body, plan to edit your video in iMovie or Final Cut anyway, desire more natural results under indoor lighting, and crave the hardware enhancements it brings, Kodak’s Zi6 is the better choice.” Link.

PC World reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “Given its size, the Flip MinoHD stands out with its good video quality, and it’s downright handy. Although the Flip MinoHD won’t suit everyone, if you’re like me and you enjoy keeping a camera on you at all times for whatever may come up, the MinoHD is for you. If you’re looking at buying an ultracompact camcorder and you want to do more than post clips on YouTube, the MinoHD deserves your attention.” Link.

Camcorderinfo reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “Unless YouTube starts hosting HD video soon, you’re probably better off with the standard definition Flip Mino. If you’re eager for an HD camcorder, consider Kodak Zi6, which does have an HD-out connection, or a more expensive, full-featured HD camcorder from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, or Sanyo.” Link.

CNET UK reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “In the end, despite a couple of small gripes, we came away feeling good about the Mino. The more compact design makes the device even more pocket-friendly than the Ultra and the addition of the rechargeable battery will save you money in the long run (because you don’t have to keep buying batteries). While 2GB of memory will be ample for most people, we would have appreciated an expansion slot for more memory and it’s irritating that the battery isn’t removable and replaceable.” Link.

PC Advisor reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “The Flip Mino is sleek, pocketable and easy to use. The video quality also excels. However, the somewhat pricey Mino’s video-uploading software can be slow and buggy and the buttons are overly sensitive.” Link.

Trusted Reviews reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “It’s no surprise that the Mino is being marketed alongside the Ultra, rather than as its replacement. Where it gains on style and pocket friendliness, it loses in holiday practicality thanks to the use of a rechargeable battery. So which of the two appeals to you depends on whether you fancy a pocket camera to take out on day events - in which case the Mino should be your choice - or for longer stints - where the Ultra will be better suited. Either way, the results will be surprisingly good in all reasonable lighting conditions, so long as you are primarily focused on sharing your video online.” Link.

Pocket-lint reviews the Pure Digital Flip Mino and writes, “We’re 6-months on from the Ultra and we are basically looking at the same thing. In the meantime the pocket camcorder world has become a much busier place and critically, we are now looking larger screens and HD quality recording, for a similar price…Whilst you can slip the Mino into your pocket to capture your movies on the fly, it just seems to be a little too late to the party, thanks to that unfortunate delay launching on this side of the water.” Link.
