Camcorderinfo reviews the Panasonic HDC-HS100 and writes, “…the picture was frequently grainy in less than perfect lighting. (Who among us has a perfectly lit house?) When you do have great lighting, the colors are heavily saturated. This will please a lot of consumers, but frustrate serious videographers who demand accuracy…Overall, we really like the Panasonic HDC-HS100. There’s no such thing as a perfect camcorder. The top performers this year (so far) - the Canon HF10 and Sony HDR-SR12 (Review, Specs, $1399.00) - both fall short of the high bar Panasonic has set for handling. So, as ever, you have to make a tough decision that factors in what’s most important for you. If you decide on the HDC-HS100, you shouldn’t be disappointed.” Link.
Trusted Reviews has a review of the Panasonic HDC-HS100 and writes, “In pure technical terms, the HDC-SD100 is more of an achievement than the HDC-HS100, considering how much it packs into such a small chassis. But the HS100’s 60GB hard disk is likely to have wider appeal, considering it only comes at a £50 price premium. Indeed, the extra 100g weight actually makes the HS100 a little easier to keep steady when shooting. So our hearts may be with the SD100’s marvellous miniaturisation, but the HS100 will probably suit most of the target market more. They’re both great achievements, though. So if you have been waiting for an AVCHD camcorder with semi-professional features, you can now choose between ultimate portability or capacious storage – both thanks to Panasonic.” Link.
PC World reviews the Panasonic HDC-HS100 and writes, “If the images from Panasonic’s HDC-HS100 equaled the camcorder’s great handling and usability, this model would be a clear winner. The HS100 provides the best controls we’ve seen in a small HD camcorder, but the images lag behind those of AVCHD camcorders such as the Sony Handycam HDR-SR12 and Canon Vixia HF10 camcorders–and those models offer decent usability, to boot.” Link.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 is identical to the HDC-HS100, but records solely to SD/SDHC cards, reducing the overall size and weight. Canon offers three solid state HD camcorders—the HF100, HF10, and HF11—and Sony offers the HDR-CX12 and the ultra-compact HDR-TG1.” Link.
