Trusted Reviews has a review of the Canon VIXIA HG20 and writes, “Yet again, Canon has proven that it currently bestrides the camcorder market like a colossus. The HG20 is another strong contender. We wish it had a lens ring like the latest flagship models from Panasonic, and a regular-sized accessory shoe. But the superb video performance makes up for both these things, under most circumstances, and otherwise the features are comprehensive. Whether you’re looking to shoot family memories in the best quality possible, or have some professional pretensions, the HG20 has loads to offer, and it’s reasonably priced as well.” Link.
Camcorderinfo reviews the Canon VIXIA HG20 and writes, “The HG20’s performance is what brings us around again to a favorable opinion. The video is so sharp, and the colors so vivid that nothing has beat Canon in side-by-side comparisons for nearly two years. We’ll readily admit that the Sony HDR-SR12 (Review, Specs, $897.00) is a close competitor, and that some may prefer Sony’s color reproduction and handling. However, Canon allows you to dial the saturation and sharpness up or down, making it more flexible (though Panasonic has just added this as well on the HDC-HS100 (Review, Specs, Recent News, $0.00) and HDC-SD100 (Review, Specs, Recent News, $889.00)). Also, the 60i/30P/24P frame rate options greatly expand the aesthetic options. The menu navigation will likely confuse new shooters, but an Easy mode makes point-and-shoot operations a snap. Heavy manual controls users may balk at the joystick as the sole means of access, but the control options are excellent. Overall, the HG20 is a very strong camcorder.” Link.

CNET reviews the Canon VIXIA HG20 and writes, “The Canon Vixia HG20 is an excellent HD camcorder that’s reasonably easy to operate out of the box and looks good, too. It’s almost identical to the company’s Vixia HF11, but rather than recording mainly to internal flash memory, it records to a hard drive. As for performance, it’s as good if not better than the Sony Handycam HDR-SR11. So in the end, it comes down to a preference for flash memory or hard-disk drive as your storage medium of choice. And if it’s for flash, your willingness to pay extra for it.” Link.
