JVC HD GZ-HD3 Reviews
Camcorderinfo reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “The GZ-HD3 is a step in the right direction for JVC, by most measures. Its first consumer high definition camcorder, the GZ-HD7 was simply too ambitious for the weekend shooter to afford or operate. But it wasn’t producing video of a high enough caliber for pros, either. The GZ-HD3 saw the loss of a lot of features, some painful, but it hits the mark a lot closer to something that can compete with Canon and Sony, who are running the show in consumer HD…Overall, the GZ-HD3 won’t win many converts to JVC, but those who like the brand already will probably find a lot to like.” Link.
Digital Trends reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “The GZ-HD3 camcorder is a good performer when there’s enough light. Video quality under these conditions is very pleasing and natural—like real life, the way high-def is supposed to be. When you go indoors there’s a fall off with lots of noise and issues grabbing quick focus. And I’m really disappointed JVC dropped the OIS—especially for the camcorder costing around $1,200 USD. If you can live with the downside, you’ll love the five hours of storage, nice ergonomics and pretty HD video.” Link.
CNET Australia reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “The Everio GZ-HD3 is significantly cheaper than the GZ-HD7 — AU$1,999 versus AU$2,799. And while we bemoan the loss of the focus ring and the other button-based manual controls, the HD7’s image-stabilisation and battery troubles, as well as its seriously questionable value proposition means that the HD3 is easily a better buy. But that’s only if you’re wedded to the JVC brand. For outright image quality, you’re probably better off opting for a tape-based HDV camcorder, such as Canon’s HV20. And if you want a really good hard drive camcorder, we’d suggest you go for Sony’s Editors’ Choice-winning Handycam HDR-SR7.” Link.
CNET UK reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “When the company introduced the Everio GZ-HD3, JVC suggested a price much less than the GZ-HD7, which doesn’t make up for the loss of the focus ring or the other button-based manual controls. However, the HD7’s price has dropped precipitously since its introduction, no doubt because of its image-stabilisation troubles…Since it’s hard to recommend a camcorder with stabilisation issues, we find it difficult to suggest the HD7 over the HD3. Ultimately, for image quality, you’re probably better off opting for a tape-based HDV camcorder, such as Canon’s HV20. If you really want a hard drive camcorder though, check out Sony’s Handycam HDR-SR7.” Link.
Trusted Reviews has a review of the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “Despite its higher bit rate, the HD3 still didn’t quite match the best we’ve seen from HDV for video quality, such as Canon’s HV20. But its performance was still ahead of any AVCHD camcorder we’ve tested. In bright sunlit conditions, the HD3 provided well saturated overall colour, although it did have a slightly warm look, particularly with skin.” Link.
CNET reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “When the company introduced the Everio GZ-HD3, JVC suggested a price $300 less than the GZ-HD7, which doesn’t make up for the loss of the focus ring or the other button-based manual controls. However, the HD7’s price has dropped precipitously since its introduction, no doubt because of its image-stabilization troubles. Since it’s hard to recommend a camcorder with stabilization issues, I find it difficult to suggest the HD7 over the HD3. Ultimately, for image quality, you’re probably better off opting for a tape-based HDV camcorder, such as Canon’s HV20. If you really want a hard drive camcorder though, check out Sony’s Handycam HDR-SR7.” Link.
PC Pro reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “The GZ-HD3 lacks a number of key features that make the GZ-HD7 potentially a great camcorder, but it’s cheaper. So, while Sony’s HDR-SR8E (web ID: 128858) has the upper hand as the next-generation HD camcorder of choice, the GZ-HD3 is on the right track.” Link.
PC World reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “When it boils down to it, we’re not altogether sure which unit represents the best value for money. On the one hand, the GZ-HD3 is attractively priced and is capable of matching the HD7 for image quality, but on the other, it lacks many of its predecessor’s premium features. If we were forced to decide, we reckon the GZ-HD3 is probably the better buy, but only for those who aren’t interested in manual shooting.” Link.
PC Advisor reviews the JVC HD GZ-HD3 and writes, “For those that prefer to keep their recording options open, depending on whether they want to shoot a full-length tale or capture a fleeting moment, the JVC GZ-HD3 has the ability to supplement and expand storage with SD cards…A quality camcorder which produces good picture quality, we had a couple of gripes with the JVC GZ-HD3, but were generally impressed.” Link.
