Canon MD160

Canon MD160 Reviews

CNET Australia has a review of the Canon MD160 and writes, “With ample lighting, colours were very accurate and vibrant, and footage was sharp with responsive and quick focus. Once the lighting dims a touch, that starts to change. In normal mode, we saw a fair amount of noise when shooting indoors with low ambient light. Night mode didn’t help much. … Despite our gripes, the MD160 is a very capable camcorder for anyone looking for a tape-based, general purpose or holiday camcorder.” Link.

GoodGearGuide has a review of the Canon MD160 and writes, “With a 1 megapixel CCD sensor, the MD160 offers quite high quality video. While it won’t compare to the incredible clarity offered by today’s popular High Definition models, it will be more than adequate for the average consumer. Images are crisp and clean, with only minor blurring. Colour balance tends towards the dull side, but is still quite reasonable, and as has become common on Mini-DV units, there were few image aberrations visible at all. We noticed a little noise in our footage when flicking between areas of high contrast, however this wasn’t too problematic. … All in all this is another solid digital video camera from Canon. While it won’t do anything amazing its big zoom coupled with above average picture quality and intuitive design make it a great all around package for those after a camera on a budget.” Link.

Trusted Reviews reviews the Canon MD160 and writes, “After the plethora of all-singing high definition camcorders we’ve seen over the last few months here at TrustedReviews, it would be very easy to look very poorly on the MD160’s average image quality and mediocre range of features. But for £200 you can’t expect a semi-pro’s dream. This is not a camcorder for anyone hoping to shoot anything more than a few family moments. But for that purpose it does an adequate job, and at least it offers a reasonable set of manual controls and decent performance in adequate light. As a last gasp for DV, there are worse options around than Canon’s MD160.” Link.
